Learning how to write comparative essays is easy. It takes some effort on your part, but once you understand how to get through to readers, you can write any essay. Here are some methods you can use to set you on the right track.

1.     As a student, you have to understand that writing comparative essays is almost mandatory in school and college. So devote some time to learn the right methods to write good essays. A comparison essay would be written simply to compare characteristics or differences in two different components or events.  This is actually quite simple. Once you choose your topic and gather information about it, a comparative statement would highlight characteristics that are just the opposite or exactly the same.

2.     Analyzing a topic is the most important aspect in this essay. For example, once you are well versed with a topic, you could clarify any question raised on it. Your knowledge of the topic would help you in breaking up any question and connecting it to your analysis.

3.     Listing out comparative statements would be a big help. If permitted, you could prepare a chart with two columns and compare each component against the other. The list of questions should answer the what, where, when, and how of an event. Try and raise several related questions. You would have your list of over 10 questions in no time.

4.     Your thesis statement would strive to accomplish one viewpoint throughout the essay. All the support statements would strive to connect with comparisons to this statement. You could write custom essays and make comparisons based on your personal experiences, but do not lose connection with the very first comparison you made. It is possible to go off track, so should be writing an informative essay and not trying to add any unwanted comparisons.

5.     Use examples that readers can relate to. Get reference from an essay bank. The event is more important than description of a place or circumstances under which it occurred. Readers would lose interest in the essay if it is disjointed and not focussed on establishing the thesis statement. If you are writing about your school, limit your example to a common focus point about the school.

6.     Spend enough time to find answers to questions which bring out the message to be conveyed very strongly. Comparisons should be in contrast or even very similar in some cases. For example, if you were to describe an event in the US with a similar event in the UK, it would have to be in the news and known to a lot many people.

7.     When comparing, allow readers to establish if there is similarity or dissimilarity between the two components. This would test your writing skills, but if you use a bit of discretion and learn how to raise queries within your essay, readers would be very interested in the essay and participate willingly in a debate. This would eventually lead to them going along with your point of view.

Try some of the methods listed above, and establish your own master plan on how to write comparative essays.
