5 Tips On Writing An Effective Communication Essay
A communication essay is typically an essay that helps in communicating with a wide audience. They could be impressed by the writing style or examples quoted to explain a point of view. Communicating with readers is an art that students have to master, if they are to write compelling essays. A piece of literature is appreciated when it can convey a message in simple language that could be understood by readers who are not familiar with technicalities. The process of conveying the message has to be simple but precise and thorough. Students may find it difficult to get all the required elements in place that would make communication easy. A few tips may help in getting it all together.
1. Write the essay as you would speak to a friend. Communication is inherent in all of us. When we try to communicate with our friends, we use simple language without paying too much attention to vocabulary. The one single factor that holds the conversation together is the ability to get a message across. The moment we fail to do this, a distinct lack of interest would be noticed on their faces. Written communication is not the same. You do not have the audience in front of you to check out their response. When it does come in, it may be too late to make corrections. A communication essay would therefore be written keeping an imaginary audience in mind.
2. Select the right topic. Students are often handed out a general list of topics. They may not be related to their area of expertise. It does not really matter. Arriving at the right essay topic requires a bit of practice, but the general idea is to find a sub topic of interest. For example, the topic could be “Write A 5-paragraph essay on sports medicine.” The topic is general and would present a good opportunity for students to write on a sub topic like sports medicine related to soccer. Going further, they could learn about the topic from the school medical center. If more students are into athletics, the process of treatment used on athletes at the center would make an interesting sub topic.
3. Use a tested essay writing technique. Try not to deviate from a style of writing that has worked over the years. For instance, students would have got an “A” for essays written in a particular style. It would be the style to emulate for all future essays and would be especially useful when complex topics have to be attempted.
4. Make a list of examples that could be used and spread them across the essay. Read through every point. Wherever difficulty in understanding a point being made is observed, add relevant examples that would help in understanding it better.
5. A communication essay is meant to convey the right message. Students must persevere and gather information that is effective and valuable. Quotes for famous personalities would add more relevance to a point of view. At the end of the essay, readers must be convinced that the writer’s point of view is right.
