English Essay Topics For Students

Choosing the right English essay topics can be a tricky task for students. They often start with a topic thinking it would be easy to compile an essay on it. As they progress through the essay, they may experience difficulty in finding the right content or vocabulary. They may be at a loss of words to express their thoughts. Even experienced writers have gone through what we know as “writer’s block” where they seem to experience difficulty in compiling fresh content on a topic. It can happen to students as well but not if they follow some simple methods to avoid monotony. The methods can help them choose the right topic.

  •        Whenever students are stuck with making a choice, it is better to seek help from peers and teachers about topics. For example, if the topics offered are based on academic subjects, they would be in a position to suggest some missed out by students. Suggested topics could be literature essay examples they have come across. More relevant options would allow students to arrive at their own topic.
  •        English essays are published regularly in magazines, newspapers, forums dealing with student issues, and websites related to the topic. Students would be able to choose relevant topics quite easily by referring to them. It just needs a little bit of practice. What is more important is that the chosen topic would be based on current issues or developments.
  •       Follow standard methods of brainstorming. A mind map needs to be created for selecting English essay topics. Software is available that could help students make the right decision. An easy method when working with software is to create sub topics and chart them out on the screen. By elaborating on these sub topics, students would have an inkling as to whether they could compile enough content on it.
  •      Using a generic style of writing enables students to connect with different topics without using difficult jargon. They can draft essays using short sentences in a way that readers could understand it quite easily. A topic could be new, or students may feel they have ventured into unknown territory. It does not matter. They should draft the essay from a reader’s point of view. Effort should be made to ensure that readers do not have to refer to outside resources in order to understand the message being conveyed through the essay.
  •      Begin writing essays on popular topics within the English coursework requirements. Students would be familiar with essays based on William Shakespeare’s works. They could write on a particular episode of Romeo and Juliet or about characters in the play. Familiarity with the play would allow students to come up with several topics.
