Writing An Effective GED Essay
Writing the GED essay is an essential part of the (General Education Diploma) GED test that has to be planned in advance. Many students do not have much assistance is preparing for the test, which can be very difficult to handle. It concerns the language arts. To avoid tension while attempting the test, it is better to understand what is needed to improve on scores. The GED is attempted by grownups that missed the chance to complete a high school diploma. They would attempt to write at least a 200-word essay that has to be accommodated within two pages. Forty five minutes has been allotted to complete the essay on the assigned topic. The important factor here is that if students have prepared well, the essay can be completed within 45 minutes. The time saved by completing the essay before time can be allotted to the multi-choice section, as the GED test consists of two sections. Both parts have to be completed. Just submitting the essay would not be enough.
Students need to acquire skills to complete GED essays. The essay has to be presentable and should convey the maximum input about the concerned topic without deviating from the main idea. Students have to learn to present information clearly and to-the-point. They must have their ideas clearly expressed, which need to be arranged logically to support the essay statement. Each idea has to be linked with each other and should connect with the essay statement sequentially. Students who are good in the English language have a great chance of understanding assigned topics. The topics do not require special skills and are based on giving one’s opinion on an assigned topic using the prompts provided. For example, a good topic could be based on the difficulties one encounters when studying and working at the same time. These are opinions of the student concerned. The maturity shown in understanding the consequences of attempting both these tasks would go a long way in scoring higher than 60% of graduating high school seniors throughout the country, which is the requirement to successfully complete the GED test.
Usually, there are two assessors who go through the GED essay. They score the essay on points. A score less than 1.5 would not be sufficient to clear the test. Students would have to reappear for both the essay as well as the multiple-choice questions. In effect, it is better to be well prepared in several areas to have a realistic chance of clearing the GED test.
1. Is the essay focused on the essay question or prompt? Students need to focus on the central theme based on the prompt. Deviation from the main ideas would not help in getting better scores.
2. Developing the topic is important, as the essay should not drag to fill in the minimum 200-word essay. Students have to be consistent in connecting ideas logically with the essay statement.
3. Editing is an important aspect of GED essays. Students must pay attention to proper usage of grammar, sentence structure, and developing the essay by including standard elements like the introduction, body, and conclusion.
