Geography coursework is considered a laborious exercise that leaves little room for using one’s imagination. Though it is about facts, latitudes, and longitudes, it is left to the writer to make it interesting. Geography is also about the land and its people, agriculture, lakes, deserts, the oceans. With a little bit of imagination, a writer can create an interesting picture with geographic information. Without changing any of the facts, it can be presented in a way that appeals to all who read the coursework. It has to be oriented towards submission for achieving good scores, but how to present it without changing the format is a skill students have to learn.
1. Accept that it is a laborious process. Geography demands meticulous collection of facts and figures. For example, an entry in the geography coursework may relate to dimensions of a place. One cannot afford to make mistakes in the entry. It would indicate carelessness as well as inability to be meticulous in work. Start the process by collecting data from several sources that are legitimate. It could be a government site, public library, and reputed magazines like National Geographic. All entries need to be verified from another source. Make notes in your own language, but copy and paste lengthy entries related to figures and charts. This would ensure you do not make mistakes while taking down an entry.
2. It is easy to form a structure for the essay. The introduction has the thesis statement which informs readers about the topic and what is to follow in the essay. It is important that facts are mentioned in the statement. But there is a problem here. People would not like to read an essay about facts and figures. They would like to know about something new or exciting. Offer it to them in the thesis statement. For example, the topic could be the Bermuda Triangle. It is also called the Devil’s Triangle.
3. If the thesis statement were to introduce the topic like “This coursework is a detailed research on the Bermuda Triangle, also known as the Devil’s Triangle,” it would be very interesting, even thought the description is clear enough. On the other hand, if it were “This geographic coursework is an investigation of the Bermuda Triangle, the oceanic region with some of the deepest trenches in the world,” it would generate interest. People already know about the mysterious disappearance of vessels in the region. Your approach would interest them. Now, present facts to either support or oppose the disappearances. The interest among readers is already generated.
4. Efforts to present facts should take over. Essay writing is an art. You can write volumes of information without problems. To generate interest among readers, simple facts and figures would have to be presented with flair and a unique writing style that appeal to them. Some get it naturally, but it can be attained with practice. Assessors would be very interested in reading coursework that is written with precision and conviction. Use short sentences that convey the message effectively.
5. The coursework should have references from authentic sources. Readers would willingly refer to the lengthy descriptions from the reference sources mentioned in the essay, if it seems logical. They understand it would be beyond the scope of the coursework to detail all the information. Referring to several reference sources would actually be good in a geography coursework.
