Finding Oneself With A Christmas Carol Essay

A Christmas Carol essay can help one understand how to find joy in helping others. Written by Charles Dickens, the book was first published in 1843. A rather queer incident forced Dickens to write the novel. Dickens was in need of urgent money and thought of a novel way to earn it. He wrote his masterpiece A Christmas Carol in just two months. It became an instant hit and has been published for worldwide readers. The literature essay reviews the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a miser who feels money is everything in life. He uses it to manipulate the lives of people and dictate terms by offering meager wages. Bob Cratchit works as a clerk in his office and is happy with whatever he can share with his family. The symbol of his strength is his crippled son Tiny Tim.

Fred pays a visit to Uncle Scrooge’s house but is rebuked and sent away. Scrooge later sees the ghost of his long-time business partner Jacob Marley on Christmas Eve, seven years after he passed away. The ghost asks Scrooge to rekindle emotions of compassion and love, which had no role to play in his life. He has turned miserly, arrogant, and bitter as he grew old. The literature review writing exercise can show how the play uses scenes to focus on Marley’s ghost and three other ghosts from his past who visit him one after the other. A Christmas Carol essay should elaborate on how Marley’s warning about future visits is ignored by Scrooge at first.

Ghost of Christmas Past tries to change Scrooge by showing him sensitive scenes from his childhood when he is alone at Christmas. The scene changes to one where he unceremoniously breaks off his engagement with Belle. The last scene shown to him by the ghost is the joyous and happy times he had as an apprentice with Fezzywig, a well-to-do but kindhearted merchant. He understands he has not been as generous with his employee Cratchit. An essay writer should bring to life the slow changes that take place in his thinking.

The scene changes to Bob Cratchit’s house. The ghost of Christmas Present leads him there on Christmas day where he is surprised to see his employee’s family members celebrating Christmas with smiles on their faces. He sees Tiny Tim on crutches and is deeply moved when the little child’s seat is shown to be empty with only the crutches nearby. The ghost also allows him to see what is happening in his nephew’s house. When Fred and his family drink a toast to their uncle Scrooge, he is taken aback and feels sorry about how he treated Fred.

The ghost of Christmas Yet takes him to see his bleak future where is all alone. He has a lonely grave and no one is mourning for him. Scrooge wakes up the next morning repenting for his sins. He decides to change his future and mend his ways. He anonymously sends a turkey over to the Cratchit household and then visits his nephew Fred’s house where he enjoys his best ever Christmas celebration. A Christmas Carol essay can end with Scrooge showing generosity by raising Bob’s salary and being a second father to Tiny Tim.
