Understanding and Compiling An Inspector Calls Essay

Compiling An Inspector Calls essay is an easy exercise if one understands how to write a review. The play was written by J.B. Priestley and soon became an instant hit with the audience. In time, it was considered among the best literary works. The socialistic viewpoint expressed by the author was supposed to be a fitting reply to the autocratic behavior of upper class society in the early 1900s. A hero essay would build up the character of the mysterious Inspector Goole as a hero who seems to be able read the minds of people. The story begins when Goole pays a visit to the house of Aurthur Birling, a wealthy mill owner and local politician.

The author Priestley has very astutely and convincingly used the character of Goole to express his own views on socialism. An Inspector Calls essay can review the intriguing story and present a moral at the end. The play was so convincing that it was made part of the GCSE curriculum. There is a suggestion that Google is actually a spirit that comes to expose the damage a capitalistic attitude can do in society. Moral policing is not appreciated even in the modern world. It creates distortion of the law. In this case, however, Priestley aims to send a message across that there is a limit to what a human being can be subjected to in civil society. The literature review writing exercise can lead writers to suggest an unwritten code of ethics that forces individuals within the framework resort to a more socialistic approach towards their fellow beings.

The fun and frolic at the dinner party hosted to celebrate the engagement of Sheila, Aurthur’s daughter to Gerald Croft, son of a competitor is disrupted when Goole enters the scene. The investigation starts on the basis of a diary maintained by Eva Smith aka Daisy Renton who holds the Birling family responsible for her death. A literature essay can vividly present how Aurthur is accused of terminating her employment in his mill on learning that she was also part of a strike for higher wages. Sheila gets Eva sacked from her job at a departmental store. Both the incidents demonstrate sheer misuse of power. Gerald learns that Daisy is the same Eva who was his keep and who he had left to fend for herself. Aurthur’s wife, Sybil, also has a role to play in the plot. She refuses to help Daisy when she gets pregnant. Again, her autocratic thinking leads her to believe Daisy is lying.

Sheila’s younger brother is not spared by Goole either. Under interrogation, he reveals that he was the one who raped Daisy. The circle is complete. All members of the Birling family and Gerald are responsible for Daisy’s death. Total disregard for human life is demonstrated when life returns to normal for the Birling family when they learn that Inspector Goole doesn’t exist at all. A phone call from the local police station changes the situation, and the family is likely to be publicly chastised. An Inspector Calls essay can end by highlighting the fact that equality and compassion must be present in abundance if the social fabric of society is to be intact.
