Importance Of A Persuasive Essay On Abortion

Students can compile a persuasive essay on abortion to express their views on this sensitive subject that has affected so many young people the world over. Words like “murder” and “infanticide” have been used liberally when dealing with the issue. Many countries have formulated legislation to ban it completely, but it still remains a social issue that has directly affected people in some way or the other. Unfortunately, the problem is not as simple as it may appear. Issues like population control, terrorism, and teenage sex are major problems that affect society. The modern generation has little time for non-liberal minded people who believe killing innocent unborn children is as good as murdering someone.

Abortion Is Risky

There is a moral issue when it comes to abortion. However, an abortion essay would establish that it can also lead to severe medical problems. A pregnant woman is at grave risk if the pregnancy has advanced beyond 21 weeks. Abortion done before eight weeks is considered the safest. Between the ninth and tenth week of pregnancy, the number of deaths among mothers increases. Teenage mothers are especially liable to suffer the most as a result of abortion. A persuasive essay on abortion should highlight medical reports that show school girls have additional risk, as they have small tightly closed cervices that are not likely to dilate without aid. It is a high risk procedure.

Dealing With Social Stigma

Many deaths that occur as a result of abortion are not reported due to social stigma attached in undergoing the procedure out of wedlock. Startling figures indicate that nearly 80% of all abortions in USA are performed on unmarried woman. A liberal attitude allows such figures to be published. It does not mean abortion is not prevalent in other countries. In fact, many third world countries have state sponsored abortion centers to deal with pregnant women who cannot discuss it with their family members. A sociology essay can come up with more exact figures. People have still not come to terms with unplanned pregnancies. When it does affect a family member, they do not know how to deal with it and would instinctively use means to cover it up.

Reasons For Abortion

Many reasons have been offered as justification for abortion, some out of practical necessity, some which can be covered in a law essay.

1.       The primary reason is that many families just cannot afford a child. There are countries around the world that do not provide state-sponsored medical aid for children. However, they offer free abortion facilities to curb the menace of overpopulation. People feel they have more severe problems to deal with like poverty and illiteracy.
2.       Working women have the problem of added responsibility. Depending on family structure, they may not have the resources or the energy to deal with work, looking after other children, or maintaining their own health.
3.       A persuasive essay on abortion would also indicate that unmarried women willingly resort to abortion as they do not wish to be a single parent or bear a child before marriage. Even in liberal societies, partners hesitate to share a child’s responsibility. The uncertainty leads women to go in for abortion.
