Edexcel GCSE Coursework can be interesting as well as challenging as it has to be submitted for assessment to Edexcel, one of the five main examination boards in the UK. GCSE is one of the qualifications offered by the company, an international organization which offers more than 1.5 million certificates to students worldwide every year. Considering that it is responsible for the marking of the UK National Curriculum assessments, the courses offered carry a lot of weight and find many students wanting to take up assignments on offer. Edexcel is constantly trying to improve its courses and keep in touch with technology. Students would have to pay a great deal of attention to Edexcel GCSE coursework, as it accounts for nearly 30-40% of final marks, significantly affecting grades.

The courses offered by Edexcel are modular. Most subjects can be attempted in modules and at any exam point in the course. For example, coursework is divided into three modules and has a 30% share of marks in the final examination. The curriculum has been revised for 2010, and details would be available at the Edexcel website for those who are going to start in September 2010.  Let us take GCSE English coursework to clarify how it works.

GCSE English coursework is divided into three units.

Unit 1 would focus on how English is used today. It would develop reading skills on non-fiction text. Students would write essays to develop writing skills and express ideas clearly.

Unit 2 would focus on improving English writing skills used in different cultures. It would encourage students to analyze and present evidence on sections of Shakespeare’s literary works like The Merchant of Venice, Romeo and Juliet, and Macbeth. Different culture prose would include Anita and Me, Heroes, and other works.

Unit 3 would aim at developing listening and speaking skills with the study of one collection of 15 poems. Students would be encouraged to develop imaginative and creative writing skills.

Great emphasis has been put on developing practical courses and making them available at the GCSE level. The GCSE course in information and communication technologies (ICT) has been accredited by Ofqual and is available to students from September 2010. Study material is already available for coursework, and the course has been designed to provide up-to-date content and custom essays that are relevant to a student’s life.

In today’s world of computers, Edexcel GCSE coursework in subjects like ICT has become vital to keep in touch with emerging technologies. To ensure that students are exposed to the very latest in technology, Edexcel would publish an annual supplement with devices and technologies that students would have to learn about. The list could be updated as and when required. Most students would be in a position to use the new technologies and produce content as consumers. The course would teach students to ask essay questions, design and create such software. GCSE coursework is getting more and more interesting and would find many more students taking up one of several courses offered by Edexcel.
